Edrington takes over The Glenrothes Speyside
Glasgow-based Edrington Group has added The Glenrothes Speyside single malt whisky to its collection of alcohol brands, after buying it for an undisclosed amount.
The wine and spirits merchant bought the brand from Berry Bros & Rudd, bringing it into the same ownership as the distillery in which it is made.
Berry Bros & Rudd has distributed The Glenrothes Speyside in international markets since 1995, purchasing the brand from Highland Distillers in 2010 as part of a portfolio including bourbon, gin, rum and ginger liqueur. During this time, it has grown to become a significant player in the burgeoning single malt whisky market.
Edrington also owns Highland Park, The Macallan and blended whisky The Famous Grouse.
Paul Ross, managing director of Edrington said: “We would like to thank Berry Bros & Rudd for their excellent stewardship of The Glenrothes over the past seven years.”
“We are very pleased to be reuniting the brand with its distillery and we know it will be an excellent member of Edrington’s leading family of premium brands, including the Macallan and Highland Park.”
“We are very much looking forward to accelerating the growth of this award-winning single malt in international markets.”
